The NATO mission in Kosovo, KFOR, states that Serbian army exercises near the border with Kosovo do not pose a threat to security in the region.
KFOR's stance comes after the reaction of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who considered these movements provocative and disturbing. He raised concerns about the development of military maneuvers in the Bujanovac area, near the border, where a majority Albanian population lives.
According to Kosovo authorities, the exercises included the use of helicopters and the deployment of paratroopers near populated areas, including near civilian facilities.
On the other hand, KFOR announced that it had been notified in advance by Serbian authorities about a planned activity in the village of Muhovc. According to the mission, it was a routine exercise within Serbian territory that involved paratrooper units transported by helicopter.
KFOR emphasizes that the situation along the administrative border line remains under constant observation and that communication with security institutions on the ground continues uninterrupted.
The narrowing of the security space is regulated by existing agreements, which provide for prior notification of movements of forces near the border and restrictions on their proximity to the dividing line.
Meanwhile, Kurti has asked the international community to react to Serbia's actions, linking them to rising tensions and recent developments in the field of armaments.
Tensions between the two countries have remained high for several years, while the dialogue process for the normalization of relations has not made any new progress.
