LDK leader proposes "unification list" for June 7 elections and calls for unity within the party

The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, has proposed that in the June 7 elections, the party run with current President Vjosa Osmani as a candidate for President of the Republic, while he himself be a candidate for Prime Minister.

The proposal was made during a joint meeting of the Central Presidency and the heads of LDK branches, while Abdixhiku later presented it at the meeting of the party's General Council, seeking final approval from the leadership structures.

In his speech, Abdixhiku said that the idea for a joint list aims at political unification and strengthening the role of LDK on the country's political scene.

"I have presented to them my proposal for a joint list. A list that is not built on political convenience, but on state responsibility. In this list, I have proposed a joint competition for President of the Republic and Prime Minister of the Republic," he declared.

According to Abdixhiku, LDK should present itself in the elections with an offer that transcends individual interests and political divisions, describing the current moment as decisive for the future of the country.

"I have proposed that LDK compete with President Vjosa Osmani as candidate for President of the Republic and at the same time the list bearer, and with me as the LDK candidate for Prime Minister of the Republic," said the LDK leader.

In his address to the delegates, Abdixhiku placed special emphasis on the need for complete unity within the party, emphasizing that unity is a condition for strengthening the LDK and facing political challenges in Kosovo.

He said that the country needs to regain strength in foreign policy and restore trust with international partners.

"This union is not just a response to a political party. This union is an antidote to the situation in which Kosovo has slipped. Kosovo today needs to restore its power in foreign policy. It needs to restore trust with strategic allies. It needs a serious state language, a dignified representation and a clear Euro-Atlantic orientation," Abdixhiku declared.

He also focused on relations within the party, calling for overcoming disagreements and putting aside personal interests.

"No one has the luxury of personal grudges. No one has the luxury of resentments. No one has the right to impose themselves on the Republic's need for a strong, united and ready LDK for the battles that lie ahead," he said.

According to Abdixhiku, the process of discussions within the party was not related to the division of positions or political agreements, but to, as he said, a process of reflection on the future of Kosovo.

"It was not a process for political bargaining, it was not a process for any electoral photo; it was a process of awareness. A process where each of us had to ask a single question: What is more important today? Our personal past or the future of the Republic of Kosovo?", he declared.

At the end of his speech, the LDK leader said that the party should enter the elections united, describing this period as a moment for political mobilization and not for internal division.

"This is not a time for division. This is not a time for ego. This is not a time for walls within our political house. This is a time for only one thing: for the great unification of the Democratic League," Abdixhiku said.
