The Chairman of the Central Election Commission declares that all preparations have been completed, while calling on citizens to participate in the elections…

The Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Kreshnik Radoniqi, has exercised his right to vote at the “Lidhja e Prizrenit” polling station in Peja, on the day when the citizens of Kosovo are electing the new composition of the Assembly. After the vote, Radoniqi said that the responsible institutions have completed all necessary preparations and that the electoral process has started on time throughout the territory of Kosovo.

He emphasized that the CEC's commitment to organizing the elections began from the moment the election date was announced and that the preparatory phase has now been completed.

"Preparations are almost completely completed and now the election process has officially begun," Radoniqi declared.

In his statement, the head of the CEC called on citizens to go to the polls and exercise their constitutional right to elect their representatives in the next legislature.

Radoniqi also focused on the diaspora vote, which took place a day earlier in Kosovo's diplomatic missions abroad.

According to preliminary information received from the CEC, the process went smoothly, while in the polling centers open in Canada and the United States of America, participation was high.

He announced that around 81 percent of eligible voters in these centers participated in the process.

CEC warns of random verification of ballot boxes

Speaking about measures aimed at guaranteeing the integrity of the elections, Radoniqi announced that after the end of voting and the return of electoral materials to the Counting and Results Center, a random check of 10 percent of polling stations nationwide will be carried out.

According to him, the verification will include randomly selected ballot boxes, while the results of the check will serve to assess whether there is a need for a recount of votes.

This measure comes after discussions and problems that have been reported in previous electoral processes regarding the counting and administration of votes.

The CEC Chairman said that additional steps have been taken to increase transparency during the vote counting.

He announced that an additional monitor has been added to the tables where counting and data entry are carried out, in order to strengthen supervision and control of the process.

Radoniqi announced that all persons proposed for the administration of the electoral process have been subject to verification by the responsible institutions.

According to him, the lists of candidates have been sent for review to the Kosovo Judicial Council and the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council. The responses received show that none of the nominated persons are under investigation.

Asked about the voting method for people who cannot read or write, Radoniqi said that the rules remain the same as in previous elections.

He explained that these voters can receive information and preliminary instructions from family members or other people, but the moment of voting in the booth takes place individually and without the presence of other people.

Finally, the head of the CEC called on commissioners, counting teams, observers and citizens to respect the law, procedures and rules governing the electoral process in Kosovo throughout election day.
