Gërvalla targets Rama: He is supporting Vučić when he is under pressure

The Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo says that the Albanian Prime Minister is providing support to the Serbian president at a time when he is facing pressure from the European Union.

Kosovo's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Donika Gërvalla, criticized Edi Rama after the publication of a joint editorial with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić in the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

Gërvalla said that this action strengthens the belief that Rama sides with Vučić whenever the Serbian president is faced with pressure from the European Union.

According to her, the citizens of Kosovo will not easily forget this stance of the Albanian Prime Minister. She considered the fact that Rama, in her assessment, is going beyond cases where he had previously been tolerated with reserve, problematic.

Gërvalla stressed that Albania should not build relations with Serbia by bypassing Kosovo. She said that every political, economic or strategic route between Tirana and Belgrade passes through Pristina.

In her statement, she warned that any Albanian political leader who sets aside this principle risks making decisions with long-term consequences for national interests.

Gërvalla's reaction came after Rama and Vučić published a joint editorial in the German daily. In the published text, they propose that Albania and Serbia could join the European Union without veto rights, without additional commissioners and without changes to the union's decision-making structures.

Gërvalla's statement once again puts the relationship between Tirana, Pristina, and Belgrade at the center of the debate, following Rama and Vučić's public appearance with a common stance on European integration.
