President Bajram Begaj, while commenting on the war in Ukraine, in an interview on the "Real Story" show on ABC News, stated that Albania's position has been clear in support of Ukraine, whether politically, diplomatically, or militarily.
He further underlined that it has been noticed that Russia does not have a will to resolve the conflict. As for the incidents that occurred in Poland, Romania, Estonia and most recently in Denmark, he said that the unified response has shown the right will to protect every centimeter of territory.
Excerpt from the interview:
-We are closely linked in foreign policy with the US, but we see that from time to time the US has strong changes in their positions, especially with the Trump administration. From the Alaska meeting we came to what Trump said in the meeting with Zelensky, where he came up with the thesis that even the Ukrainian President himself was surprised, he was told to go even further into the occupied territories, do you see this situation as a bit delicate?
Albania's position has been clear in support of Ukraine, whether politically, diplomatically, militarily, and with humanitarian assistance. We certainly live in times of great challenges at a time when the challenges are multiple, and these situations require a fair and proper approach based on international law, such as the right of the Ukrainian people to preserve their sovereignty and territorial integrity. During this time, we have noticed that Russia does not have the will that should lead to a proper resolution of this conflict. A will that has not been accepted despite the important influences and meetings that have been held, as you mentioned in Alaska, and we have seen incidents like the one in Poland, incidents in Romania, in Estonia or recently in Denmark, which are serious, but I think that the unified response has shown the ability of the alliance and Poland and the other affected countries that have shown the right will to protect every inch of the Alliance's territory.
-Drones have been shot down, but if a plane with a Russian pilot is shot down tomorrow, the situation will certainly worsen. Are we ready for such a conflict?
We support Ukraine in this unjust and unjustified aggression, we support the right of the Ukrainian people to freedom and will definitely support it in any situation.
-Let it be article 5 too
Certainly, Article 5 is an article that is mandatory for every NATO member state.
