Former Socialist MP Petro Koçi said that the protest that has been taking place in front of the Prime Minister's Office for 16 days should not have as its objective the overthrow of the government, but should be transformed into a movement that demands more democracy and deep reforms in the functioning of the state.
Koçi stated that the energy created by this protest should be channeled towards the changes that, according to him, are needed in the political and institutional system in the country.
According to Koç, one of the issues that requires immediate intervention is the 2008 constitutional amendments, while he proposed a rebalancing of powers in the country by expanding the powers of the President of the Republic. According to him, the head of state should take on a greater role in the institutional system and no longer be elected by the Assembly but by the people.
"It is a political protest that must be oriented in the right direction. From a protest that seeks to overthrow the government, it must seek democracy that would encourage the action of the majority to act with rapid reforms for the functioning of the state and democracy. I have in mind here the immediate annulment of the 2008 constitutional amendments that turned the republic from a parliamentary to a prime ministerial one. In addition, there is room for more balancing of powers, by expanding the power and competencies of the president of the republic, who must be elected directly by the people when there are local elections," said Koçi on the show "Today Live in Albania".
An important part of his statement was also about the fight against corruption. Koçi said that Albania is at a moment where strong and concrete measures must be taken to crack down on corruption at every level. One of these measures, according to him, is the lifting of immunity for the next 10 years.
"There is a need for the parliament, with a decision, to lift full immunity for the next 10 years. Albania is at a moment when it must strongly fight corruption. This is what the prime minister and the Socialist Party should do," said Koçi.
The former socialist MP also focused on SPAK, for which he requested more institutional guarantees.
"There is a need to strengthen SPAK and remove the fog regarding their mandates, the mandate must be guaranteed by allowing repetition or guaranteeing the future in the justice system," said Koçi.
In his analysis of the changes required by the political system, Koçi also included reforming the electoral system. According to him, the current model should be such that it allows new political currents to compete with more chances in the country's political life.
"The electoral system should be more democratic and allow for more pluralism and chances for new political currents," he said.
Returning to the protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office, he said that this movement can produce positive results if it serves as pressure for reforms and not simply as a political battle for a change of power.

Behuni burra e flisni hapur se cfare eshte komplotuar nga Qeverua dhe kreret e PS kunder ketij populli. Po kjo vale ndryshi i do tju marre edhe juve para.
