"DP in agony", Sula revolts: I will not give anyone the pleasure of

Former Democratic Party MP, Dashnor Sula, has made an in-depth analysis of the situation in the DP, raising concerns about the ongoing crisis and the lack of serious reflection within the political force he once represented.

Invited to the News24 studio, Sula also commented on the DP's efforts to lobby the United States to lift the "persona non grata" declaration against Sali Berisha. According to him, a response from the State Department, even if negative, would help to close once and for all the chapter that has divided the DP and led to an internal war.

"The letter from the lobbying company contracted by the DP to the US State Department is an important development. A response from the US State Department, even if negative, would put an end to the debate that divided the DP and created the civil war within it. It could be a strong starting point for Berisha or for the DP," said Sula.

He emphasized that the DP missed the opportunity for national reconciliation in April 2022, when some of the Democrats called for reflection, but the party chose to continue with anger and exclusions.

"There is no real unity in the DP. 3-4 people have joined the parliamentary group, but nothing has happened below. 250 thousand votes left the DP and went to small parties. Who will analyze the loss? Those who don't even have the votes of their own house?", he added.

According to Sula, the party is in agony and Berisha has only two scenarios: either to retire with dignity, saving what he himself created, or to truly reform the DP.

"The best scenario would be for Mr. Berisha to do something good for what he built himself: to save the DP before it dies. The DP is in agony. We need a deep reform in structures, sections, and the removal of those who do not have votes. Flamur Noka and Albana Vokshi no longer want the Democrats. It is a shame that the number 2 of the DP has such a weak formation," he added.

If this does not happen, Sula sees another possible path: "The second scenario is a new platform, a resistance group within the DP. The new parties will be dissolved, except for Agron Shehaj, which has a chance to consolidate."

He said he will closely follow developments in September: "If figures like Jorida Tabaku, Belind Këlliçi, Ervin Salianji or others start a new movement, it would be something positive. If they remain silent and only think about the chair, then everything is over."

Sula concluded that he will not leave politics involuntarily, emphasizing that he sees himself as more worthy than many of those currently on the scene: “I do not give anyone the pleasure of taking me out of politics like this. Apart from Berisha, I see others as lower than myself. Politics must have morality.
