A large-scale fire has engulfed a forest area in the Iballe area, in Fushë-Arrëz, above the Gere neighborhood, endangering part of the Iballe-Mëzi forestry economy.
Due to the difficult mountainous terrain, the Fushë-Arrëz firefighters were unable to intervene near the fire source and were stationed in the center of the Administrative Unit. Meanwhile, throughout the night, residents of the area and forest service employees worked with makeshift equipment to limit the spread of the flames.
With the fire spreading over a wide area, helicopter intervention has been requested from the Armed Forces. Teams are working to secure the perimeter of the fire, with the aim of bringing the situation under control.
According to preliminary information, the fire started in a bushy area, while initial suspicions are that it may have been caused by deliberate arson. The circumstances of the incident are expected to be clarified by investigations by the competent authorities.
