The Chairman of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, after the end of the Socialists' meeting, where Edi Rama was also present, spoke to the media about the protest that has been going on for four weeks outside the Prime Minister's office.
The head of the socialist group stated that there will be no motion with debate in the Assembly regarding the protest, a request made by the Democratic Party.
He stressed that the Socialists do not accept or recognize that the party led by Sali Berisha would become a mediator between the Socialists and the protesters.
Balla further said that he understands some of the protesters, but not those who, according to him, are in the square and defend the interests of countries that are not friendly to Albania.
"I have informed the parliamentary group about the position we will take. Regarding a request for a motion with debate, some requests from the DP parliamentary group, read by the protest, I neither recognize nor accept Saliu's party as an intermediary between us and the protesters. I respect those who came out to protest on issues related to environmental norms, an investment that will necessarily be made, I have said it, within this protest there are elements involved, it seems clear that they are interests related to regional tourism competitions. Day by day, this story is becoming clearer. I neither recognize nor accept Saliu's party as an interlocutor between us and the protesters.
You know my personal petition very well about this process. I respect all those who came out to protest on issues related to concerns and the desire to respect environmental norms, regarding a necessary and vital investment for the country's economy in Zvërnec.
This is an investment that will necessarily be made, because it represents a great opportunity for Albania, as it comes once every few decades.
Within this protest, there are also elements that, from day one, have sought to inflate this "balloon", which has almost burst. It is clear that there are interests related to regional tourism competition, foreign interference and countries that are not friendly to Albania.
"Day by day this story is becoming clearer. This 'balloon' is deflating and is now visible to all Albanian citizens," he said.
