Electoral crimes, SPAK raids Klos Municipality; several officials are escorted

But even though there have been several operations, so far there have been no sensational arrests by SPAK...

The Special Prosecution Office and the National Bureau of Investigation have raided the Klos Municipality today, as there are suspicions of the involvement of officials and other persons in vote buying during the May 11 elections.

According to media reports, several officials in this municipality were escorted and their phones were seized. It is also suspected that police officers were involved. According to sources, the action was led by prosecutor Elvin Gokaj. The suspicions are that the officials bought votes for the SP.

This action is in the wake of many others. A few days ago, a similar action took place in Vau e Dejës, where the mayor's cell phone was seized. There were also checks in Shkodër, where PSD representatives were targeted. The cell phone of Tom Doshi's companion was even seized.

At the same time, similar actions were carried out in Fier and Elbasan, in cooperation with the Local Police.

But even though there have been several operations, there have been no sensational arrests by SPAK so far. This has led the opposition to launch attacks, accusing it of doing nothing to prevent crimes.

Also today, the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, Chief Prosecutor Olsjan Çela, and the head of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi, had a meeting this morning with diplomats accredited in Tirana, where the focus was on the May 11 elections and the follow-up of procedures for the fight against electoral crime.

The meeting, held at the French Embassy in Tirana, was attended by the ambassadors of France, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Great Britain and the US Chargé d'Affaires.

The meeting was also attended by the representative of the European Union and the head of the ODIHR Observer Mission, Lamberto Zannier.

It is learned that the diplomats were briefed on details regarding the progress of the electoral process, cooperation between institutions in the context of the investigation of electoral crime, and the bringing to justice of those responsible.

According to reports, during the meeting, the head of SPAK and the Chief Prosecutor informed the diplomats about the steps they are taking against electoral crime, denunciations, treatments, and cooperation between the Special Prosecution Office and the District Prosecutors' Offices.

In this context, it is learned that Dumani and Çela have informed the ambassadors about the mechanisms being followed for the investigation and subsequent bringing to court of persons suspected of electoral crimes. In this context, SPAK is investigating 39 files related to the May 11 elections, while many cases are being followed by the District Prosecutor's Offices, in cooperation with the Special Prosecutor's Office.

The meeting emphasized inter-institutional cooperation, but also with international partners regarding the crackdown on electoral crime. It is reported that the diplomats requested that all issues related to electoral crime be investigated promptly and transparently, as a way to increase public trust in justice institutions. /Pamphlet
