Socialist MP Xhemal Qefalia, who lost his mandate on May 11 after failing to win the necessary preferential votes as part of the open list, stated that the withdrawal of his request from the vote recount was made before Prime Minister Edi Rama ordered in the WhatsApp group of socialist MPs that anyone who had addressed the CEC to withdraw.
Qefalia states that the Prime Minister's intervention was not necessary at all to withdraw the request.
"I had withdrawn the request to see the vote counting footage even before Rama reacted," said Qefalia from the News24 studio.
A day earlier, it was reported that several socialist candidates, mainly in the Tirana Region, had approached the CEC with requests to obtain video footage of the vote counting, raising suspicions of manipulation in the process. The requests were made by current lawmakers who lost their mandates for the new Parliament.
But it was Prime Minister Edi Rama who stopped the momentum of the 'rebellious' socialists by asking them to give up this demand, while appreciating the role of the socialist enumerators and commissioners.
From the moment the votes were counted, suspicions have been raised regarding manipulation, especially in relation to preferential votes.
