British Conservative MP Andrew Rosindell has attacked Prime Minister Edi Rama, recalling his statements about Great Britain and simultaneously raising the issue of young Albanians leaving the country. In a reaction on Platform X, Rosindell states that Rama is free to comment on Britain, but he also has the right to express his opinion about Albania.
Rosindell referred to Rama's statement, who had stated that "Britain left Europe because it wanted fewer ships and there are more ships. It left Europe because it wanted more investment. There is less investment."
The British MP recalls the visit he made to Tirana last year, talking to many young Albanians who expressed their desire to leave the country.
"Prime Minister Rama is free to comment on Britain, just as I am free to comment on Albania. Last year I spoke to many young Albanians in Tirana who told me they wanted to leave the country, which will become even more possible with Albania's entry into Schengen. In 2022, Albanian nationals were the largest group to arrive illegally in small boats in the UK. The real question is why so many young Albanians felt they had to leave their country in the first place. I will take lessons on sovereignty from the British people, not from a foreign prime minister. Brexit was about democratic self-government and this principle remains as important today as ever," the British MP writes.
Rosindell's reaction comes at a time when the political situation in Albania is attracting the attention of European MPs and politicians. Protests against Prime Minister Edi Rama have entered their fourth week and are also being covered by international media. In addition to reports on developments on the ground, reactions to the political crisis in Albania are increasing in European political circles, while citizens continue to protest demanding Rama's departure.
