After the sensational theft of jewels from the Louvre in Paris, France's artistic heritage appears to be in dire straits. Targeted by thieves, it seems as if nothing can protect it. However, news has only now emerged of a Chinese woman arrested as part of the investigation into the theft of gold pieces estimated to be worth 1.5 million euros from the National Museum of Natural History in Paris. The theft is said to have taken place in September, according to prosecutor Laure Beccuau.
The arrest and the turning point in the investigation
The Chinese woman was arrested in Barcelona and handed over to French authorities by Spanish authorities under a European arrest warrant. The woman, who had left France on September 16, was about to return to China.
Another “priceless” damage to French heritage On September 16, thieves stole gold nuggets and other objects from the Natural History Museum in Paris, initially valued at around 600,000 euros, later revalued at 1 million euros and finally declared at 1.5 million euros. The seizure consisted of several raw samples of native gold, an alloy of gold and silver, and, according to experts, its value goes beyond the simple valuation of the metals. A source from the museum also stated: “Beyond the value according to the price of gold, the financial damage to the historical value of the objects is incalculable.”
The theft was discovered by a cleaning company employee who found the mineralogical gallery in disarray, according to information from BFM. The thieves had entered the Geology and Mineralogy section, taking advantage of the fact that the alarm system had been deactivated for several weeks due to a cyberattack. The Natural History and Mineralogy Gallery had been closed for several days.
