Ten signed Salvador Dali lithographs have been found inside a London garage, where they had been stored for more than half a century.
The works were discovered by an auctioneer during a routine appraisal and are now expected to sell for thousands of dollars. The paintings were discovered when the expert was called to a property in Mayfair, London to help the client with the valuation of some memorabilia.
But the visit turned into a real surprise when they turned to the customer's garage, whose identity is unknown.
In addition to the 10 Dalí lithographs that are generally a mix of mythological and allegorical scenes, there are 5 more by the French painter, engraver, illustrator and sculptor, Theo Tobiasse.
The paintings are thought to have been bought for £500 at the time and now each of them could sell for the same amount when they go up for auction on September 30.
According to Hansons Richmond auction house, “Dali and Tobiasse are highly regarded and anything related to them is highly sought after. These lithographs are a less expensive way to secure a signed copy."
Dali was a surrealist born in Figueres, Catalonia in 1904 and died in 1989.
The painter is known for whimsical works with melting clocks and red lobsters.
