The "Wiener Stadthalle" arena in Vienna has become the center of European music spectacle with the launch of the 70th edition of the "Eurovision Song Contest", where thousands of fans from all over Europe have gathered to closely follow the continent's biggest music competition.
Under the motto "United by Music", 35 countries compete this year, in an edition that brings strong emotions, but also new rules for the voting process. After 11 years, Austria returns as the host country of the festival, thanks to the victory of the artist JJ in 2025.
Albania is represented by singer Alis with the song "Nan", a creation that conveys a universal message about the figure of the mother and her role in the Albanian family. His performance has been praised for combining the simplicity of the text with a heartfelt musical motif, attracting the attention of international media, including the BBC.
In an interview with RTSH, Alis spoke about the emotions of the intense preparations and rehearsals for the second night of the semi-finals, where he will perform 13th in the standings.
"It's a dream. From the first moment I entered the rehearsals, it felt like the whole world was following me. This is the most beautiful part of Eurovision. The fans have an incredible energy and I am very grateful for the support of Albanians. I hope to make them proud," the artist said.
Beyond the competition, Alis also emphasized the friendly atmosphere among the participating artists, leaving open the possibility of international collaborations after the festival ends.
Meanwhile, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has imposed stricter voting measures following criticism and allegations of rigging in past editions. The maximum number of votes per person has been reduced to 10, while checks for suspicious activity have been increased.
The support of the Albanian diaspora is considered crucial for Albania's qualification to Saturday's grand final. Voting for Alis is done through the number 13 in the participating Eurovision countries, according to the respective codes of each country.
Meanwhile, Albanians living in non-participating countries can vote online throughout the day of May 14. They will not be able to vote during the live broadcast of the spectacle, but voting will reopen a few minutes after Albania's performance and at the end of the spectacle.
Albania aims for a place in the grand final, in a competition that brings together artists from across Europe and beyond, turning music into a bridge between cultures and an international audience.
