Eurovision 2025, Estonia's entry song infuriates Italians: We won't

Estonia's entry in Eurovision 2025 with the song "Espresso Macchiato" by rapper Tommy Cash has caused a stir in Italy. The artist is receiving criticism for the song's lyrics, which mock Italian culture. Cash won the Estonian national final on Saturday, February 15, dominating the other contestants by a wide margin. Currently, the song - a mix of English and 'broken' Italian - is at the top of Spotify's Italian "Top 50 Viral Chart".

The lyrics to "Espresso Macchiato" say, among other things: Ciao bella, I'm Tomaso, a smoker. I like my coffee, it's very important. I have a lot of money, I work non-stop. That's why I sweat like a mafia boss.

Italy's consumer association, Codacons, has appealed to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) questioning the suitability of "Espresso Macchiato" for the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest. According to Codacons, the song in question projects a stereotypical side of Italy in relation to coffee and pasta, or even the mafia.
