On the stage of the National Opera and Ballet Theatre and the Popular Ensemble comes one of the most special events of the artistic season: the union of two world-famous operas in a single evening. For four consecutive nights, on 3, 4, 6 and 7 April, starting at 8:00 PM, the audience will have the opportunity to experience an emotional journey between drama and comedy.
On the program are “Cavalleria Rusticana” by Pietro Mascagni and “Gianni Schicchi” by Giacomo Puccini: two works that, although different in tone and style, complement each other perfectly.
"Cavalleria Rusticana" brings to the stage fiery passion, jealousy and human tragedy in a Sicilian village, while "Gianni Schicchi" turns the atmosphere around with a sharp comedy full of irony and unexpected situations.
How can two operas be performed in one evening?
This practice is quite common in the world of opera. Both works are one act each, which means they are shorter in length than a traditional multi-act opera. For this reason, they are often programmed together in a single evening, creating a complete experience. Usually, there is a short intermission between the two operas, giving the audience time to reflect and prepare for the change in atmosphere.
This combination of contrasts, profound tragedy and brilliant comedy, is precisely what makes this evening special: a testament to the power of opera to encompass the full range of human emotions in a single experience.
