Unenlightened history, tribes and historical figures

Hasan Bey Halilaj-Beçishti played a prominent role during the rule of Ali Pasha of Tepelena, as one of the collaborators of his inner circle, as a capable military commander and trusted administrator of Ali Pasha in the region of Tepelena.

The relationship between Hasan Bey and Ali Pasha was based on common political and military interests. Both shared a vision for expanding the Pasha's power and a stance against the influence of the Sublime Porte in the region.

Hasan Bey Beçishti had great influence in the Chameria area, a strategic region for Ali Pasha. He helped consolidate the Pasha's control in this region, taking care of relations with local tribes and communities.

According to Turkish archives, Hasan Bey Halilaj-Beçishti remains a historical figure who symbolizes the alliances and political complexities of the Ali Pasha era, having an important role in the history of Albania and the Balkan region.

The Halilajs, the beylers of the village of Beçisht, had a close and historical connection with Ali Pasha Tepelena, as they all come from the same village.

Ali Pasha, a well-known historical figure who was born in Beçisht, was part of an old and influential family in the village, which also included the Halilaj beylers.

The connections between the Halilajs and Ali Pasha were probably characterized by family closeness and tribal relations, which at that time played a major role in political and social structures.

As was customary at the time, beylers and powerful families collaborated to strengthen their economic-political positions and support each other in the challenges they faced.

It is likely that the Halilajs played an important role in supporting Ali Pasha in his rise to power, contributing economic capital, troops, and influence in the area.

Ali Pasha, on the other hand, as a native of Beçisht, knew the power and influence of the Halilajs and their allies, so when he strengthened his rule, he did not touch their wealth and possession of the lands they had, nor their privileged positions as part of his system of government.

The Halilajs of Beçisht, a well-known Albanian noble family, have had a history closely linked to historical developments in southern Albania, especially during the Ottoman period, as part of the regional feudal elite and played an important role in the political and social life of the southern area.

After the death of Hasan Bey Halilaj I and the fall of Ali Pasha's rule, the Halilajs formed ties with the local beys of the Tepelena region, such as in Miricë, Vasjar, Maricaj, Amanikaj, Levan and Qesarat, an alliance to maintain their economic rule, while no longer getting involved in politics./ Pamphlet taken from the Ottoman Archives

The fate of the beys of Beçisht, after the establishment of the communist regime in 1945

The Halilajs of Beçisht were wealthy, powerful and had alliances with the beys of the area, even forming alliances among themselves; but their power declined after 1945, when the communist regime killed Jashar bey Halili in prison and imprisoned the beys Tasim and Sadik Halilaj; it seized and persecuted Afuz, Ferro, Hasan, Petrit, Halil, Miro and Xhevdet Halilaj, branded as "kulaks and enemies of the people's government".

The descendants of Hasan Bey Halilaj the first from the time of Ali Pasha, Hasan Halilaj and Sami Halilaj moved to the Memaliaj mine, while their brothers Maliq and Nasip Halilaj lived in the village of Beçisht until the end of their lives, without removing their "Beyler" stamp.
