The National Food Authority (AKU) has issued an alert for a quantity of almonds imported from Spain, after they were found to contain hydrocyanic acid above the permitted level, a toxic substance that poses a risk to human health.
According to the AKU, the product in question is "BLANCHED ALMOND EXTRA FINE", with an expiration date of October 22, 2026. The Authority calls on consumers who have purchased this product not to consume it and to return it to the point of purchase.
The product was imported into Albania by the entities Albania Smart Distribution SHPK and Alta Group.
The AKU reports that out of 1,100 kilograms of almonds imported by Albania Smart Distribution and another entity, the entire quantity was sold to the end consumer.
Meanwhile, out of 100 kilograms imported by Alta Group, 42 kilograms have been blocked and will be destroyed, while 58 kilograms have been sold.
The authority emphasizes that it has been notified of this case through the system of European food safety authorities and urges citizens to verify the product they have purchased and avoid consuming it.
