A burned-out car has been found near the village of Mirakë, in Elbasan, suspected to have been used by the perpetrators of the murder of businessman Edmond Hyka (alias Mëhalla), yesterday evening in Elbasan.
The completely burned-out Audi car was found on the Elbasan-Librazhd road, before the Murrashi bends.
Meanwhile, so far 10 people have been taken to the police station and are being questioned to shed light on the circumstances of the crime.
The police have set up 4 checkpoints in Korça, Pogradec and Devoll. The directive that the police officers have received is to check black Audi vehicles, as it is suspected that after the incident the perpetrators of the murder have moved towards Librazhd, so the southeast remains a main "door" in case they want to cross to Greece.
Execution in Elbasan
Yesterday evening, 43-year-old Mondi Mehalla, alias Edmond Hyka, was shot dead inside his parked vehicle. The incident occurred at around 20:35, in the "Emin Matraxhiu" neighborhood, near his gas station.
According to preliminary data, Mahalla had just left his office, in the building where his mother's businesses and apartment are located. The moment he got into the vehicle, he was shot with a firearm, receiving three bullets, two of which in the head, which caused his immediate death. The dynamics of the event have been assessed by experts as a typical mafia execution, but it could also result in murder due to a conflict that occurred last midweek for reasons that are still unclear.
Immediately after the alert, the Police services arrived at the scene, setting up numerous checkpoints at all exits of the city. Intensive field checks are continuing, in apartments, various environments and secondary roads, with the aim of identifying and capturing the perpetrators.
The control will also continue for persons who possess unauthorized weapons or other prohibited means.
Police sources indicate that the vehicle used by the attackers is suspected to have been a black Audi, which sped away in the direction of the Elbasan-Librazhd axis.
Meanwhile, the General Directorate of Police has set up a special investigative group, which is working intensively to review video footage of the area and collect other material evidence.
According to official data, the 43-year-old had a criminal record in the field of narcotics and illegal possession of weapons. It is also learned that he was involved in a conflict a few days before the murder, a lead that is being seriously considered by the investigation team as a possible motive for the execution.
Investigations continue on several parallel tracks, while the police operation on the ground remains ongoing. The perpetrators of the assassination remain unidentified.
