A fight broke out in the Vlora detention center, where according to reports, at least 5 people raped another convict, who is awaiting extradition to Italy.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Friday evening, and Eduard Alikaj was injured as a result of the attack.
Initially, there was a verbal clash between the detainees and the convicts that precipitated into physical violence.
After the incident, Alikaj was transported to receive medical assistance, and returned to the detention facilities in a stabilized condition.
Meanwhile, measures are expected to be taken for the people involved in the conflict and there will be transfers from the Vlora detention center.
Authorities are working to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident. Italian authorities accuse Alikaj, who is known as a businessman in the city of Vlora, of being part of a group that carried out thefts of machinery in northern Italy and exported them to Albania, where they were used for road construction and public tenders.
The operation began with an 'abandoned' excavator in Villanova nel Piacentino, where a citizen called the police after seeing several people watching the vehicle. Police soon discovered that the machine had been stolen in Parma.
The excavator had a false chassis number and was hidden to be picked up a few days later for transfer outside Italy. The investigation began in July 2018 and ended after six months. The group had people who carried out the thefts, others who changed the chassis numbers and entrepreneurs who issued false invoices for the sale.
The group has carried out 6 thefts at construction sites in Northern Italy, starting from (Dalmine, Ridiamo, Tortona, three in Fontevivo), with a value of 2 million euros.
In total, the group consisted of 9 people.
