A 33-year-old Albanian fugitive has been captured in Albania after 7 years on the run. He escaped from San Cipriano d'Aversa in 2018, while serving a sentence of 8 years and 6 months in prison, on charges of attempted murder and criminal conspiracy. The arrest came after an investigation that lasted about two years.
The 33-year-old is suspected of being part of a gang that specialized in armed robberies of homes and businesses between Naples and Caserta. He was convicted of an attack on a well-known businessman in the Naples area. During the robbery, a neighbor, a member of the police force, raised the alarm, triggering an exchange of gunfire.
In light of the facts, the Albanian was placed under house arrest, from which he escaped in the first months of 2018, disappearing without a trace. Investigations reconstructed his path as a fugitive, locating him in Albania, thus allowing the extension of the arrest warrant to an international level.
The investigation, which led to the arrest of the wanted person, was carried out by the Caserta Police and the Central Operations Service, with the coordination of the Office of the Prosecutor General at the Court of Appeal of Naples, as well as by the Tirana Police Directorate and Interpol Tirana.
Cooperation was also developed with the 2nd Division and the Office of the Security Expert in Albania of the Central Directorate of Criminal Police - International Police Cooperation Service, which activated the General Secretariat of Interpol to disseminate searches at the international level.
The search activities for the arrested person are part of a broader project called “Wanted 2025”, which aims to find and capture individuals of high criminal importance in cooperation with foreign police authorities. This project aims to strengthen international cooperation in the fight against organized crime.
