An Albanian citizen, in his 60s, passed away on Tuesday evening at the Cattinara Hospital in Trieste, after a serious health complication that caught him in the middle of working at the city's industrial port.
The incident occurred near the loading and unloading area at the Scalo Legnami terminal, where the victim was carrying out routine procedures. According to reports by Italian media outlet TriestePrima, some port technicians had handed him documents, but when they went to contact him again, they found him lying unconscious in the truck's cabin.
The 118 emergency service was immediately called and efforts began to extricate him from the cabin, an operation made difficult by the deceased's physical stature. Once he was extricated, initial resuscitation maneuvers were performed at the scene, but his condition was critical.
After being intubated and temporarily stabilized, he was urgently transported to Cattinara Hospital, where, despite medical intervention, he died a short time later.
The victim was born in 1968 and was in Italy for work. Local authorities have not yet released his full identity, while the Albanian community in Trieste has been shocked by the news.
