England declares Albanian drug trafficker Bledar Lala 'non grata'

The United Kingdom has declared Albanian Bledar Lala "persona non grata" and imposed full financial and legal sanctions on him, as part of a new global campaign against illegal human trafficking.

Lala has been identified as the leader of a criminal gang in Belgium that smuggled migrants across the English Channel to Britain.

According to the official announcement, Lala has been banned from traveling, has his assets frozen and is prohibited from having financial ties or being a director of companies in the UK. He is one of 30 individuals and entities sanctioned today by the British government under a new legal regime, the first in the world to directly target criminal people smuggling networks.

The sanctions include criminals from the Balkans, North Africa, the Middle East and Asia, involved in activities such as smuggling in small boats, refrigerated trucks, providing false passports and illegal money transfers through the Hawala system.

"Our message to traffickers is clear: we know who you are, we will stop you and we will hold you accountable," declared British Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

This initiative is part of the "Plan for Change" and the "Stop, Punish, Return" strategy, which aims to hit the roots of organized crime and stop illegal immigration to Britain.
