The Council of Ministers has approved in principle the social security agreement between Albania and Poland, bringing to 17 the number of agreements of this type that Albania has signed, 11 of which are with European Union countries.
The Minister of Economy, Delina Ibrahimaj, stated that the agreement is part of the policy pursued by the government to guarantee the rights of Albanian employees who have built their careers between Albania and other countries. According to her, these agreements enable the recognition of social security periods paid in different countries, giving citizens the opportunity to benefit from pension rights and other benefits according to the legislation in force. The Minister announced that so far about 20 thousand Albanian citizens have benefited from the signed agreements for the recognition of social security contributions.
"The Ministry of Economy today passed a draft decision, an approval in principle of the social security agreement with Poland, bringing to 17 the number of agreements signed by the Republic of Albania, where together with the agreement with Slovenia there are 11 agreements that have been signed with European Union countries. I would like to remind you here that this is a policy that has already begun and been intensified by the Albanian government for several years, as it is essential in protecting labor rights and in protecting the rights and payments that every individual can receive in the future after having worked for several years in the Republic of Albania and several years in another country. It has been a problem that has been carried over the years ," Ibrahimaj announced.
According to Ibrahimaj, the process will continue with other countries. Currently, four new agreements are in the negotiation phase and are expected to be submitted to the Council of Ministers for approval, before their signing.
"Last year, we signed and ratified the agreement with Italy, which is the most important since the number of Albanians working and living in Italy is very high. So far, around 20,000 Albanians have benefited from the agreements we have signed for the recognition of years of social security contributions. That is why we are continuing with high intensity. There are four other agreements that are being negotiated and very soon we think that we will bring them to the Council of Ministers for approval and then for signing," the minister emphasized.
