The ruling party and the opposition were involved in debates, during the plenary session, regarding the price of fuel in Albania, while the majority rejected a draft law presented by the opposition, which proposed reducing taxes, which are considered the main reason why today in the country, the price of oil is higher than in countries in the region.
In the presentation of the draft law "On the response mechanism for fuel supply and price crises", MP Eno Bozdo said that Albania should make legal interventions to reduce the taxes that currently weigh on the price of oil.
While requesting that this draft law be included in the agenda of the Assembly, Bozdo said that Albania today has no reserves and citizens today buy oil more expensively than all countries in the region, compared to Kosovo and Macedonia.
" Albania does not possess a single gram of strategic security oil reserves. The Prime Minister claims the opposite. We are probably the only country that does not have such a reserve, even though the legislation requires it. The government has not put water on the fire and this always happens. At this point, we pray that the crisis does not deepen and that no order is received to release oil reserves, which are known to be 90 days, while today they are 0 days. All other countries in the region have these reserves ," he said.
The Democratic MP further stated that the draft law offers the opportunity, opens the door for legal intervention in cases of crisis, which allows the government to accompany the reduction of taxes that weigh on the price of oil, such as the circulation tax that citizens pay twice, or otherwise the carbon tax, making the price of oil very expensive.
" If we eliminate these taxes, we will be able to compare ourselves with Macedonia and Kosovo. These landlocked countries sell oil 30-40% cheaper."
Another mechanism introduced by the draft law is to implement the mobile excise tax model currently used by Italy.
"Any VAT surplus that comes from the growth of the crisis, which pours more undeserved money into the coffers, goes to reduce excise duty by the same amount. This mechanism takes over the management of reserves ," said Bozdo.
On the other hand, Taulant Balla, head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, has requested additional arguments because the Assembly should include the discussion of this draft law in an accelerated manner.
However, Balla has left open the possibility of cooperation with the opposition, but added that this cannot be achieved with barbs and Molotov cocktails.
"Here, instead of justifying the request of 36 MPs for the reasons for the expedited procedure, politics of the day was made over a fact that is global."
The invitation is again open if you want to work together, bujrum, but not with this again because I can't find a more beautiful Albanian word than gërdufja, without gërdufja, without Molotov cocktails, without violence, " said Balla.
