The Elbasan bypass is the next project for which the Albanian Road Authority (ARRSH) has announced today the opening of two procurement procedures. The latter with the contract object “Construction of the Tirana - Elbasan connecting road with Corridor VIII, Phase 1” and “Construction of the Tirana - Elbasan connecting road with Corridor VIII, Phase II”. The first procedure, Phase 1, has a limit fund of 3.3 billion Lekë, while Phase 2 has a limit fund of 2.5 billion Lekë, bringing the total fund for this first lot to over 56 million euros.
Referring to the documents accompanying the procurement procedure, it is underlined that this segment aims to improve the connection between the capital and the city of Elbasan and strengthen the connections of Corridor VIII, one of the main international corridors in the region.
The road mainly follows the route of the Elbasan City By-Pass, according to the Municipality’s General Local Plan, with some minor deviations to meet the design standards of an “A” category interurban highway. The segment begins in the village of Bradashesh, where the Tirana–Elbasan highway ends, and continues towards the southwest of the city. The terrain along this segment is mainly plain, with elevations ranging from 100 to 150 meters above sea level.
The project, according to the documents, has taken into account the hydrological, geological and urban conditions of the surrounding area, to guarantee high safety and durability of the road. This segment has a length of 4.2 km. The Albanian Road Authority has emphasized that the construction of the Elbasan Bypass will reduce traffic in the city center, shorten travel times and improve road safety for citizens and businesses. / Monitor
