Edi Rama's diplomatic isolation from Germany

Edi Rama's diplomatic isolation from Germany
Edi Rama /

How Rama destroyed relations with Europe's locomotive...

The outburst of his spokesman, Batoni, to call Germany a corrupt country was the lowest point of Edi Rama's despair.

Official Berlin has become the prime minister's biggest enemy in his fourth term, which is facing difficulties on many fronts. His government is facing numerous challenges, just like landslides on the roads of Albania.

But beyond his oppression, which has grown so thick that it is starting to break, the reality is more severe for the country, and quite difficult to fix one day when Edi Rama falls.

Albania's relations with Europe's most powerful country - Germany - are at their lowest point.

The recent incident with the Albanian ambassador in Berlin, which seems to have turned our diplomatic headquarters into a den of suspicious Russians, who are, unsurprisingly, an espionage contingent, was just the last straw.

Albania is the Balkan country with the lowest level of economic and trade relations with the locomotive of the continent, and with one of the main powers of the planet.

Germany is the second largest donor in direct projects in the country, where the majority of the funding is spent on the construction of water supply and sewage systems in major cities, as well as the construction of electricity interconnection lines.

However, Albania is the only Balkan country to experience a frightening interruption of German direct investment during Edi Rama's government.

After the departure of a large German company from the management of Rinas airport, the giant Deutsche Telekom also remained very little in the field of mobile telephony.

Meanwhile, Edi Rama has not given any concessions on green energy, such as solar panels or wind power plants for German corporations.

Although the giants of this field from Germany are spread throughout the region. In Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Bosnia and North Macedonia, German activity is significant and has yielded important results for the community and the state budget.

In all the competitions for the construction of new ports, starting with the one in Durrës, but also in Vlora and Saranda, although they competed, no German company was accepted to be involved in the infrastructure field in Albania. Even though they are known as the best and most qualitative in the world.

Vlora Airport was not given to German companies, even though there was interest, and every effort was made to remove the management rights from Munich Airport.

Coming to tourism, no German company has received permission to build hotels or tourist resorts, even though they are high-level craftsmen.

Germany is also excellent in the hospitality industry. Suffice it to mention the Spanish Riviera from Marbella to the Canary Islands: Majorca, Minorca Ibiza, all have become top destinations for German capital and tourists coming from Germany.

Who are considered the biggest spenders of this entire category. Croatia is a typical example of the colossal money that German tourists spend every year in every summer season, but also beyond. Meanwhile, Albania is the country with the smallest number of German tourists in the region. Even those who come are mainly transients in the Albanian Alps, with individual expeditions.

Meanwhile, in the political sphere, everything is blocked; German chancellors have visited all Balkan countries except Tirana, while Edi Rama has not visited Berlin since the beginning of Olaf Scholz's mandate.

Current relations are completely frozen; with the arrival of the government of Fredirich Merz, Germany is the strongest supporter of SPAK, and helps not only with political support, but also with technical assistance and intelligence.

It is precisely this support that has derailed Edi Rama, after he discovered that the Germans know everything about his oppression and crime in the region.

The best example is the case of Nikola Gruevski in North Macedonia, where the Germans gave his rival Zoran Zaev the famous "bombs" with wiretaps of corrupt government officials.

Edi Rama's great fear is that his "bombs" will soon be published in Tirana, a moment when his 13-year-old sand castle will collapse. / Pamphlet
