Will Vjosa Osmani have Albin Kurti's support?
Vjosa Osmani and Albin Kurti /

In a few days, the procedures for electing the President will begin: will Kurti reconfirm his former ally or impose a new name at the head of state?

Within a week, the process for electing the President of Kosovo will officially begin in Pristina. Constitutional deadlines force the Assembly to enter into the procedure, while the political backstage is much hotter than it seems to the public. Vjosa Osmani's mandate is entering a decisive phase and everything is no longer a matter of speculation for 2026, it is a matter of weeks and votes.

According to the Constitution of Kosovo, the President is elected by the Assembly with 2/3 of the votes in the first two rounds and with 61 votes in the third round. This means that the process is not a formality, but a real test of political strength. Any lack of consensus risks institutional deadlock and potentially early parliamentary elections.

The question dominating the political scene is straightforward: what will Albin Kurti do?

He controls the parliamentary majority and has the decisive weight in determining the candidacy. Support for a second term for Osman would signal continuity and institutional stability. But lack of support would be a clear signal that the logic of power reconfiguration has entered the ruling camp.

Osmani has built a strong international profile, especially in relation to the US and the EU.

In diplomacy, she is seen as an articulate and consistent figure in the Euro-Atlantic line. This gives Kosovo an advantage in image and credibility. But a President with an independent profile is not always suitable for a Prime Minister who aims for complete institutional control.

If Kurti chooses to support him, he preserves institutional cohesion and avoids unnecessary tensions at a delicate moment for the dialogue with Serbia and for relations with allies. If he chooses another candidate, he consolidates power, but risks opening a new front of conflict; both with the opposition and with international factors that see internal balance as an element of stability.

There is another element: electoral dynamics. A clash for the Presidency could become a catalyst for new parliamentary elections. In this scenario, the election of the President would no longer be a matter of protocol, but a silent referendum on the current government.

Ultimately, the process that begins in a few days will show whether Kosovo is entering a phase of institutional consolidation or a new cycle of political tension. The presidency is not just a ceremonial office; it is a symbol of unity and a reference point in foreign policy.

The clock is ticking. And Kurti's decision will determine not only Osman's fate, but also the architecture of power in Kosovo for years to come./ Pamphlet
