The horror of Manza, the anatomy of a crime

The horror of Manza, the anatomy of a crime
The place where the terrible incident took place in Manzë /

From crime in Manzè to violence in every city, guns, gangs, and politics have replaced the law, and the state treats barbarity as normality...

There is a symptomatic defect in Albanian media opinion when it comes to reacting to developments or events that raise awareness. Such as the horror crime in Manzë, where two young men killed each other, pulling out their pistols and firing bullets in succession, as if they were lighting cigarette lighters.

A double crime is always a tragedy; not only for the victims and their families, but for the entire community and the state itself. There is no “easy” motive that makes a murder any less serious.

This relativization, which is in fact a moral and professional failure of the media, only serves to obscure the real causes: social degradation, state failure, and the frightening spread of a culture of violence.

The “coffee” motive is an alibi. Many times, the motives that are spread by the police are simply deceptions to cover up deeper connections between the perpetrators, drugs, debts or criminal structures. But more than the motives, the problem is the terrain that feeds these crimes; a place where weapons have become an inseparable part of daily life, and where criminals feel untouchable.

In every city, from Shkodra to Durrës, Elbasan, Vlorë and Saranda, violence has become routine. Gangs and “strongmen” move around armed to the teeth, with armored cars and tinted windows, under the nose of the police. The police often even apologize when they stop them “by mistake”. Because these people are not just criminals, they are patrons of power.

These gangs are an organic part of Edi Rama's system, an important link in maintaining power, buying votes, and blackmailing the media and political opponents. Although the prime minister pretends to curse them in public, in practice they are his "workhorses."

SPAK is the only institution that has taken a real crackdown on criminal groups, often in cooperation with international partners. The Albanian police have not submitted any serious cases, and as the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, himself admitted, they have never received a signal from the blue uniforms about any organized crime files. The reason is simple: someone high up has stopped them.

In a country where the government uses gangs for power and the opposition uses them for bargaining, every citizen is potentially a victim of a regime that rules with fear, weapons and impunity. This is why in Albania murders no longer happen for revenge, but for sport./ Pamphlet
