Local elections in North Macedonia have concluded with peaceful turnout and a democratic atmosphere in all municipalities, while the main parties have begun to declare victory claims, before the official results are published.
From the VMRO-DPMNE headquarters, Timco Mucunski declared that his party expects a landslide victory in most municipalities in the country. He described the allegations of irregularities and manipulation as "a strategy by SDSM to justify the defeat."
" We will win in most municipalities. We expect a clean and clear victory. The elections were peaceful and met the highest democratic standards ," Mucunski declared.
On the other hand, VLEN, through spokesperson Driton Sulejmani, stated that the high turnout in the elections is a sign of growing support for their platform. He expressed optimism that in some municipalities, the race will end in the first round.
" We are close to victory in Chair, Tetovo, Saraj, Bogovinje, Želina and Tearce. Citizens have recognized the change in central government and we expect the same for the municipalities ," said Sulejmani.
Meanwhile, DUI chairman Ali Ahmeti reacted after the close of voting with a message on social media, emphasizing citizen participation.
" Today the winner is the citizen - who believes in democracy and European values ," Ahmeti wrote.
Preliminary results of the local elections are expected to be published in the evening hours. Until then, the parties remain in suspense, amidst triumphalist tones and opposing positions on the integrity of the process.
