Local elections, DUI leader: We failed to win the mayoral race

The leader of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), Ali Ahmeti, spoke after the vote counting process for the local elections in North Macedonia.

According to him, the elections were accompanied by the use of state resources, with systematically orchestrated electoral engineering, as well as blackmail and pressure on voters.

Ahmeti emphasized that these practices are unacceptable for a democratic society and damage citizens' trust in the electoral process.

However, the DUI leader emphasized that his party has won the "majority vote - the people's vote," describing this as support for the vision and direction that DUI has offered for the country's future.

"Unfortunately, these elections were accompanied by the use of state resources, with systematically orchestrated electoral engineering, as well as with blackmail and financial pressure on the voter. These dishonest practices do not belong in a democratic society and damage the very trust of citizens in the electoral process. However, we have won the majority vote – the vote of the people ," he said.

Ahmeti acknowledged that the loss of several positions at the local level should serve as a signal for strengthening party structures and improving access to citizens.

"The loss of several positions at the level of mayors is a call to strengthen structures, to offer more to the people and to improve the way we manage local politics ," he declared.
