Five German climbers, including a 17-year-old girl and her father, have died after an avalanche in Italy's Dolomite mountains.
Based on reports from the Italian mountain rescue service, Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico, the incident occurred around 4:00 PM, while the group of climbers, divided into small teams, was trying to reach the Cima Vertana peak.
This point, also known as Vertainspitze and located at an altitude of 3,545 meters, is a popular destination for adventurers. According to details, a three-member team was completely swallowed by the avalanche, losing their lives instantly at the scene.
In the other team, a father and his daughter disappeared under the snow, and their remains were only discovered early Sunday morning. Two other members of a third group escaped and immediately notified authorities, triggering a major rescue operation.
