Donald Trump confirmed on Friday that he intends to meet with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, in South Korea within the next two weeks.
In recent days, there had been suspicions about the first face-to-face meeting between the two men since Trump returned to the White House in January.
In an interview with Fox Business, the US president said that "I think we're going to get along well with China, but we have to have a fair deal. It has to be fair," Trump stressed on the network's "Mornings with Maria" show, which was taped on Thursday.
Donald Trump said his proposal for 100% tariffs on products from China would not be sustainable, but blamed China for the recent impasse in trade negotiations, which began with Beijing's tighter control over rare earth metal exports.
When asked whether tariffs of this magnitude are sustainable and what impact they will have on the US economy, Trump replied: "It's not sustainable, but that's the number."
