The technicality Putin could use to avoid arrest on flight to Hungary

As the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues, Western diplomatic efforts to find a political solution continue apace. Military action is only a means to an end, a political compromise is the only way the war will end.

Donald Trump seems determined to explore all options to negotiate some form of ceasefire, and Hungary appears to be the preferred location for their next summit after Alaska.

But how will Vladimir Putin travel to Hungary, given that it is surrounded by signatories of the International Criminal Court, which has issued an arrest warrant for the Russian leader?

Traveling by land, train or car, would require customs/border checks, which would increase the likelihood of being detained. This would almost certainly be an unacceptable level of risk for the Russian leader.

Instead, flying on a military aircraft would avoid the need for customs checks at borders.

Although nations may deny a flight plan access to sovereign airspace, flying along the border of the Flight Information Region (the international airspace boundary between nations) is a way for military aircraft to navigate without entering either nation's airspace.

A technical detail, perhaps, but an effective one. Although NATO military fighters will probably accompany the Russian President during this visit, it is highly unlikely that alliance fighters would be given authorization to use weapons in such circumstances.
