Another air accident in Italy, helicopter with 4 people on board crashes in

A tragic air accident occurred on the morning of December 4 in the mountainous area of Valtellina, northern Italy, where a helicopter transporting workers for intervention after a landslide crashed on steep terrain in the municipality of Lanzada.

The alarm was raised at around 08:35, when several witnesses saw the aircraft crash in the “Le Prese” area. According to Italian authorities, there were four people on board. Three of them, the pilot and two workers, survived with minor injuries, while unfortunately one victim has also been confirmed.

The deceased has been identified as Tommaso Diaz Ledesma, 29, of Colombian origin and resident of Valmadrera (Lecco). His body was later discovered during an aerial inspection by emergency forces. The dynamics of the accident remain unclear, but according to initial investigative sources, it is suspected that the helicopter hit a rock massif during flight and then fell in an area very difficult to intervene.

At the time of the crash, the helicopter was on a technical mission to repair damage following a landslide that occurred on November 12 in the Valmalenco area. Authorities are investigating whether any of the workers had previously landed on the ground, which caused initial uncertainty about the number of people on board.

The helicopter was piloted by Maurizio Folini, a highly experienced pilot known for his participation in many dangerous rescue missions. He is in hospital in a life-threatening condition.

The search and rescue operation involved the fire brigades from Sondrio and Chiesa Valmalenco, the Sondrio carabinieri, the AREU 118 helicopter rescue team and the Alpine Search and Rescue Unit.
