The conflict broke out near the pool of a resort on the Costa Brava after a dispute over a sunbed. Witnesses describe scenes of panic, while the tourist operator has launched an investigation into the incident...
A 13-year-old British girl has been taken to hospital after being injured during a mass brawl at a hotel in Santa Susanna, on Spain's Costa Brava. The Sun newspaper reported that the teenager was punched in the face and suffered a broken nose, while her wounds were bleeding.
The incident took place near the pool of the Santa Susanna Hotel, where dozens of tourists were at the time. Footage published by The Sun shows a physical altercation between several people, while other holidaymakers try to intervene to separate the parties.
According to witnesses interviewed by British media, the conflict began after the girl sat on an empty sunbed, unaware that it was being used by another family. They claim that a man immediately reacted by hitting her, without first asking her to leave.

After the initial incident, the situation quickly escalated. Witnesses say other people joined the fight, while British tourists intervened to protect the girl and her family.
The video shows a teenager in a green bikini being beaten near sun loungers, while women present try to push the attackers away. In the background, screams of children and holidaymakers can be heard, as several people rush away from the pool area.
According to witnesses, the fight caused panic throughout the complex. They said that glasses were broken, drinks were thrown during the conflict and parents were asking their children to leave the pool immediately.
One witness told The Sun that the scenes were reminiscent of a terrorist attack, as fireworks were heard moments before the clash and many holidaymakers initially did not realise what was happening.
According to the same source, the 13-year-old girl left the scene with blood on her face and was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Witnesses claim that she suffered a broken nose, although this has not been officially confirmed by health authorities.
They add that other people also received minor injuries, including bruises, cuts and scrapes.

After arriving at the scene, police took statements from witnesses and intervened to calm the situation. In the released footage, several police officers are seen talking to tourists near the pool.
According to some holidaymakers, the British family was moved to another resort after the girl was treated in hospital. Some tourists also stated that they felt unsafe and chose to stay in their hotel rooms after the incident.
The Sun cites several witnesses who claim that hotel staff were afraid to confront the group allegedly involved in the conflict. The newspaper uses the term "Spanish gypsies" in referring to the witness statements. This is their claim and has not been confirmed by the police or Spanish authorities.
Love Holidays, the online platform through which some tourists had booked their holidays, stated that it is aware of the incident that occurred on June 24th on the Costa Brava.

"The safety and protection of our customers remains our top priority. We are investigating this incident with the hotel as a matter of urgency and are contacting affected customers to provide support," the company's response said.
According to The Sun, Santa Susanna Resorts executives had not commented by the time the article was published.
British media linked the incident to the ongoing debate over sunbed reservations at Spanish resorts. In recent years, many hotels in Spain have implemented new systems, such as time limits, booking apps and identification tags, to avoid conflicts between holidaymakers over the use of sunbeds by the pools.
