Netanyahu at a crossroads!
Benjamin Netanyahu and Donald Trump

US President calls Netanyahu 'crazy'

Israeli diplomacy is facing a serious challenge. When you rely on an ally to help you in difficult times, you need to have a backup plan in case that ally changes its mind.

For months, Donald Trump has been Israel's strongest supporter, even according to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, "the greatest friend Israel has ever had . "

But the situation changed when Trump began to prioritize other goals: lowering energy prices, ending conflicts, and reaching a deal with Iran. In this context, Netanyahu's tough approach and his insistence on continuing military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon began to be seen as an obstacle.

The US president initially called Netanyahu "crazy." He then suggested that the Israeli prime minister was acting on White House instructions. Criticism intensified further after he ordered an attack on Beirut, at a time when the Iran deal was said to be close to being finalized.

Recently, Trump declared that Israel is causing many casualties in Lebanon, that Syria would be an easier challenge to manage and, in a statement that is considered excessive even by his standards, said that "without me there would be no Israel."

On the other hand, Netanyahu, who has not yet seen the final text of the US-Iran deal, insists that Israeli forces will continue to remain in Lebanon. He acknowledges that he has open conversations with Trump, but emphasizes that he makes national security decisions himself.

However, the Israeli prime minister, who is expected to face elections later this year, finds himself facing a difficult political dilemma.

On the one hand, he could follow Trump's demands by limiting operations against Hezbollah and, ultimately, withdrawing troops from Lebanon. Such a move would help preserve relations with the US president, but it could damage his political image, weaken electoral support, and give an advantage to his opponents.

On the other hand, he could remain loyal to his current course, jeopardizing Israel's relations with its most important ally. This choice could also have electoral consequences.

All of this is taking place in a climate of widespread discontent within Israel, where many see Trump's deal with Iran as a strategic mistake that strengthens the Iranian regime without providing additional guarantees for Israel's security.

Netanyahu has often proven that he knows how to survive politically, but this time he faces a situation that puts him at the limits of his political maneuvering. /Adapted from "Pamphlet" by "SkyNews"
