European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, during her stay in Skopje, informed the authorities about two projects that will be implemented in the Western Balkans.

The project is about setting up artificial intelligence factories in North Macedonia and Serbia.

This is an expansion of the AIFA Artificial Intelligence Factory Antennas program to seven EU member states and six partner countries, including North Macedonia.

"I want to announce that we will open our artificial intelligence factories in the Western Balkans. We will start with two antennas in North Macedonia and Serbia, introducing a fast digital network across the region that will allow companies from the six partners to connect to these factories," von der Leyen explained. This means that companies from the Western Balkans will be able to access the European infrastructure for artificial intelligence, she said.

Ursula von der Leyen, after meeting with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickovski, President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, and Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi, also discussed the European perspective, the progress of reform processes, economic cooperation, energy security, and digital transformation in North Macedonia.

"We fully support North Macedonia on its path to the EU - said Ursula von der Leyen, adding: "Your next and only step before opening negotiations is clear, you need to make constitutional changes. The ball is in your court. The EU is ready."

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mickoski emphasized the government's readiness to accelerate the country's European integration, through concrete results and meeting European standards.

"North Macedonia expects clear and concrete commitment from the European Union, as confirmation of the European perspective and support for citizens, who have remained committed to European values for decades," said Hristijan Mickovski.

Mickoski also said that he is pleased with the announcement that an artificial intelligence center will be opened in the country. This is something great for the citizens of Macedonia.

"This is a joint co-financing worth about five million euros. This means that practically Macedonian students and experts will be able to use and draw on the resources that the EU itself has. So far we have used the experiences and resources of neighboring countries, from now on we will have our own center, which will deal with artificial intelligence," said Mickovski.

We remind you that during her official visit to Tirana, the President of the European Commission gave only a message of support and praise to Prime Minister Edi Rama for Albania's path towards membership in the European Union.

In a joint conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama, she praised the latter for the progress Albania has made so far. She even expressed that she is impressed.
