Italian authorities are investigating a series of deliberate attacks on railway infrastructure, recorded on the morning of February 7 in several areas of central and northern Italy, with significant consequences for train traffic, especially at the Bologna railway junction. So far, there has been no claim of responsibility and no clear signs or messages have been found, but investigators speak of coordinated actions with similar characteristics.
The investigations are being conducted by Digos, under the coordination of the Prosecutor's Office, and are being developed in all directions. However, according to investigative sources, the anarchist track is considered more than a simple hypothesis.
According to official information, a technical well has exploded in the Castel Maggiore area, near Bologna, damaging the cables necessary for the operation of the high-speed train line connecting Venice with the Bologna underground station. Railway police forces intervened at the scene, while an improvised explosive device was also found on the same line.
Another incident was recorded on the Bologna-Ancona line, in the territory of Pesaro, where a technical cabin exploded. Firefighters also intervened there. The damage caused numerous diversions and delays, both for high-speed trains and for those on the conventional line. The situation gradually normalized during the day and around noon AV trains resumed stops at the Bologna underground station.
The events occurred at a symbolic moment, parallel to the opening of the Olympic Games, bringing to mind similar episodes of sabotage recently recorded in Paris.
Italian Transport Minister Matteo Salvini reacted sharply to the developments, speaking from Bormio, where he was attending the Milan-Cortina Olympics. “I am sorry that, while everything is going well here, I read news from Bologna about an attack on the railway line that is paralyzing traffic. It is a criminal act. If it is confirmed that it was a premeditated attack, precisely on the first day of the Olympics, then someone is wishing harm to Italy,” Salvini declared.
