The US House of Representatives Ethics Committee has opened a preliminary investigation into Democratic Representative Jimmy Gomez, following allegations of sexual misconduct published in the media.
According to CNN, the process began after verifying information published by the New York Post, which stated that Gomez was seen exchanging kisses with an assistant during a private party in 2023. The deputy's office has previously denied these claims.
During the review of the case, investigators reportedly received information about other similar allegations, which are being analyzed as part of the same investigation.
In a public statement, Gomez acknowledged that he had made mistakes in his personal life in the past that had affected his family. However, he stressed that the relationship was consensual and that his actions did not violate the law or Congressional ethics rules.
The Democratic MP also stated that he will fully cooperate with the Ethics Committee and provide any information requested during the process.
The investigation remains in its early stages and the Ethics Committee has not yet issued an official comment on the matter. Jimmy Gomez represents California's 34th District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
