What to expect after Trump leaves China?

Donald Trump's statements during the press conference in the Oval Office indicate that the situation between the US and Iran remains unclear and potentially unstable.

According to Mark Stone, until the day before, there was an expectation that the conflict would escalate again within a short time. He recalled that Trump had described as "completely unacceptable" the proposal presented by the Iranian side in the negotiations.

"Now he calls that document 'garbage' and claims he didn't read it in its entirety. However, he then had a phone conversation with Benjamin Netanyahu," Stone said.

According to him, the atmosphere in Washington created the impression that the American president had lost patience and was ready for a new military strike against Iran.

However, Stone notes that Trump's diplomatic plans may have had an impact in deterring an immediate military response. The US president is expected to embark on a major visit to China, which the analyst describes as the most significant trip abroad of his second term.

"He doesn't want to be involved in an active conflict with Iran while he's in China," Stone said.

He also recalled that Trump had previously postponed the same trip due to the war in the Middle East, which he said shows that the US administration had expected the crisis to be resolved by now.

In his analysis, Stone identifies the Iranian nuclear program as the main point of disagreement between the parties.

According to him, Iran has shown willingness to compromise on several other issues in the negotiations, but refuses to give up its nuclear infrastructure.

"Iran seeks to maintain its uranium enrichment capabilities. Iranian authorities continue to state that the program has civilian and medical, not military, purposes," Stone said.

However, for the US this remains a core security issue and a red line in negotiations.

Stone estimates that a new American strike on Iran before the visit to China is unlikely, but warns that developments after Trump's return could be decisive for the course of the conflict.
