The United States Department of Justice has released new documents related to the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, including a previously unpublished photograph of former US President Bill Clinton in the company of the late financier, accused of sex trafficking.
The image was released without any further explanation from US authorities, who did not provide information on when and where the photo was taken, or under what circumstances. However, its publication has brought to light previous links between Clinton and Epstein, also documented in other investigative files.
The development comes as Bill and Hillary Clinton have agreed to testify in the US House of Representatives investigation into the Epstein affair. The agreement was reached on Monday, avoiding a formal vote in Congress that could have found them guilty of contempt of court. The Clintons had previously refused to testify.
The released files confirm that after leaving the White House in the early 2000s, Bill Clinton traveled several times on Epstein's private jet, a fact that was known even earlier, but which continues to spark political and public debate in the US. The documentation also includes several other photographs of the former president.
Clinton himself referred to this period in his 2024 book, "Citizen: My Life After the White House," where he admits that the decision to travel with Epstein was a mistake.
"Ultimately, even though he allowed me to visit my foundation's work, the trip on Epstein's plane was not worth the years of questioning that followed. I wish I had never met him," Clinton writes in his memoir.
