Very few ships have been able to travel through the Strait of Hormuz since Iran effectively closed the key shipping corridor following the outbreak of war with the US just over two months ago.
But a 142-meter-long superyacht linked to a Russian billionaire made headlines on Tuesday after it emerged that it had managed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz last weekend.

Sanctioned businessman Alexey Mordashov is linked to the vessel, called the Nord. The yacht itself is not sanctioned, but Mordashov is subject to sanctions by the US, UK and EU.

It is still unknown how the yacht managed to pass the strait without being detected by the Iranian navy, whether it turned off its radar or had special permission after contacting officials in Iran.
