Autopsies performed on the bodies of Italian citizens who lost their lives in the Crans-Montana tragedy have revealed new elements, which strengthen suspicions that some of the victims could have survived if they had not been hindered by the conditions created in the environment where the fire broke out.

According to forensic results, the victims had not consumed significant amounts of alcohol and, at the time the flames engulfed the discotheque "Le Constellation", they were conscious and physically able to leave. However, investigators suspect that their escape was hindered by the emergency exit, which turned out to be closed.

This conclusion is based on the autopsies performed on the bodies of Achille Barosi, Chiara Costanzo, Giovanni Tamburi, Riccardo Minghetti, Sofia Prosperi and Emanuele Galeppini.

The tragedy, which occurred during the night between December 31 and January 1, caused 41 deaths and 115 injuries, including Italian citizens. The forensic report is expected to be submitted to prosecutor Stefano Opilio in Rome, who is conducting parallel investigations with Swiss authorities to determine the causes and responsibilities of the incident.

In Italy, the owners of the bar, Jacques and Jessica Moretti, are being investigated for multiple counts of manslaughter, wounding and arson. However, the investigation could further expand the scope of responsibilities after the arrival of documentation from the Sion Public Prosecutor's Office, which is conducting a broader proceeding against 14 suspects.

The forensic examination determined that the main causes of death were burns and, above all, asphyxiation caused by carbon monoxide.

Meanwhile, investigations in Switzerland have revealed that only two autopsies were initially performed, while examinations for the other victims were carried out later, in some cases after requests for exhumation by family members. Also, some death certificates did not clearly state the cause of death, an element considered essential for criminal proceedings.

Only three days after the tragedy, the bodies were handed over to the families, while autopsies were subsequently ordered for only a portion of the victims, causing delays in forensic investigations.

In parallel, the position of the Moretti couple has become more difficult in Italy. A new accusation is related to an invoice that is suspected of being falsified for the acoustic material used in the ceiling of the bar, which, according to investigators, may have favored the spread of the flames after being engulfed in a fire caused by pyrotechnic elements used during the service.

According to the prosecution, the document contains significant inconsistencies and there are strong suspicions of forgery.

Investigators are also reviewing internal communications from Jessica Moretti, in which she gave instructions for organizing fireworks displays inside the bar. In one of the messages reviewed, she warned about the danger of acoustic foam in contact with sparklers, which investigators say may indicate she was aware of the hazardous nature of the materials used.

On the other hand, lawyers for the victims' families are requesting that the charge be reclassified to "potential intentional murder", a criminal offense that provides for much more severe penalties, up to 20 years in prison.
