Former prosecutor Ervin Karanxha commented on Sunday evening on the election of the new head of SPAK.
He said that the four candidates aiming to lead SPAK have been passing institutional filters for years.
From the studio of the "Terminal" show on A2cnn, Karanxha said that all of them are SPAK prosecutors and have been subject to continuous professional and ethical evaluation for over six years.
Karanxha underlined that decision-making belongs to the High Prosecutorial Council, as an expression of the individual will of each member, while the presence of internationals in the process is completely legal and provided for in the Constitution.
He recalled that it is the same MPs who are today criticizing this presence, who previously voted for constitutional amendments that give internationals an assisting role in justice reform.
According to him, they do not vote, but observe and serve as a guarantee that SPAK is not affected by political interests.
Referring to criticism of Altin Dumani's involvement in several cases, Karanxha explained that the law provides for the establishment of investigative groups for important issues, which also include the head of the institution.
This, according to him, strengthens the seriousness of the investigation and professional cooperation.
Finally, Karanxha wished success to prosecutor Altin Dumani in his new position, emphasizing that the challenge of his successor will be not only to continue the work, but also to break the "myth" created around the figure of Dumani, to further strengthen public trust in justice.
