Trump appoints new ambassador to Tirana/ Who is the general expected to succeed Yuri Kim?
US President Donald Trump has selected the name of the new United States ambassador to Tirana.
The US Embassy has been without an ambassador for nearly 3 years and Trump has nominated retired General Eric Wendt to succeed Yuri Kim. His name has been sent to the Senate and if approved there, the general is expected to be stationed in Tirana.
Eric P. Wendt is a retired U.S. Army lieutenant general who most recently served as the 5th commander of NATO Special Operations Command, a position he completed in January 2021.
During his career, Wendt has held several important positions in the US military and international structures. He served as the US Security Coordinator for the Israeli-Palestinian Authority from 2017 to 2019, as the chief of staff of the US Pacific Command, and in other leadership roles in special operations, including Korea and Afghanistan.
Wendt graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a degree in law and society, and then completed his master's degree in national security affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School. He retired from the military in March 2021 after more than 34 years of service, including more than 30 years in special forces as a Green Beret. He speaks several foreign languages, including Arabic and Korean.
Earlier in 2020, President Trump nominated him to be ambassador to Qatar, but his nomination was not confirmed by the Senate before the end of the then-current Congressional term.
50 million euro fraud/ Who are the people involved in the call center scheme?
The Tirana Prosecutor's Office has issued 7 arrest warrants and 2 "ban on leaving the country" measures as part of the operation carried out in the capital, where three Call Centers suspected of computer fraud were targeted.
The list of people for whom the "prison arrest" measure has been imposed are: Eduart Dalla, Mateo Hoxha, Tedi Agastra, Ledio Toçi, Xhoel Mekolli, Marsel Lami and Xhoji Hitaj, the latter also known for a previous case of "attempted intentional murder". Meanwhile, Aida Vokli and Ledjon Cenaj have been left with the "ban on leaving the country" measure.
According to sources, during the operation, over 80 operators found in the premises of these centers were escorted and interrogated.
Over 800 thousand euros in cash, as well as numerous technological devices, including computers, servers, USBs and security cameras, were seized from the controls. The three Call Centers targeted were located in different areas of Tirana, while the investigations have also led to the identification of several other suspected bases, which are being verified.
The investigations, which began about two years ago in cooperation with German and Austrian authorities, have uncovered an organized fraud scheme targeting European citizens. According to the data, two of the arrested, Mateo Hoxha and Tedi Agastra, are suspected of converting profits into cryptocurrencies to hide the money's tracks.
Investigations speak of thousands of people being defrauded and an economic damage that is suspected to exceed 50 million euros, while investigations continue to fully uncover the network and the involvement of other people in this activity.

"Impunity has ended"/ Rama: No one will stop us on the European path
From the Diaspora Summit, Prime Minister Edi Rama did not hesitate to criticize the opposition regarding what he considers to be the tarnishing of Albania's name in foreign languages, in the international arena.
For weeks, Rama has been accusing the opposition of making every effort to hinder Albania's integration process into the European Union, while the country has opened all negotiation chapters in record time.
He compared Albania's journey to the experience of Albanian immigrants, saying that just as in the past they faced difficulties and lack of attention in the countries they went to, Albania has also faced similar challenges in the integration process. Rama stressed that impunity in Albania has come to an end, ending, according to him, the time when the law acted only for the weak while the strong challenged it.
Rama also sent a message to Albanians living outside Albania to invest in the properties of their ancestors, or in their country of origin.
