The family of State Police officer Enea Mekolli, who lost his life during a police operation, have requested that he not be laid to rest in the Martyrs' Cemetery, as provided for by the status of "Martyr of the Homeland".
According to information reported by journalist Xhensila Kodra, the family has decided that the deceased officer be buried in his home village, respecting a family wish.
The request is related to the fact that the family previously lost another son, also a police officer, who passed away as a result of an illness. The relatives have requested that the two brothers be laid to rest next to each other.
The funeral ceremony for Enea Mekolli will take place on Friday, at 2:00 PM, in his hometown. Meanwhile, tributes in honor of the soldier will be held at 12:00 PM in the city of Pogradec.
