Journalist Artan Hoxha spoke about current events in the country, mainly about the work of SPAK, which has carried out several actions in recent days.
Hoxha told "News 24" that SPAK was created for this reason, but compared to the Serious Crimes Prosecution Office that preceded this structure, it has only made a difference in the fight against corruption, as well as in the investigations of organized criminal groups.
Artan Hoxha: As long as SPAK exists, there will be such arrests. A SPAK prosecutor has the same protection as the prime minister. The only difference that SPAK makes compared to the former Serious Crimes Office is anti-corruption, while for serious crimes it is working more with files coming from abroad. It does not infiltrate the Serious Crimes Office as it used to.
However, SPAK is still far from expectations, as corruption continues even after 3 mandates of a political entity governing the country. The most effective part that seems to be the fight against organized crime. But the investigations are not for activities that occur today, but earlier. We need current investigations, because old groups are quickly replaced. SPAK should increase the pace, should not waste energy on some issues, and should always focus on high-level corruption.
The next question: does it follow SPAK standards? It needs to improve a lot in this case as well. Today, for example, there was a meeting on the strategy for collecting and processing waste with the same people who have been accused of incinerators, this is to put your hands on your head.
