Lawyer Kreshnik Spahiu has stated that in Albania, there are prisoners who have more money than the annual prison budget.
Invited this evening to the show 'Frontline', on Report TV, where they discussed blitz checks in prisons for illegal devices in cells, security and special meetings, he said that a problem in prisons today is the introduction of phones and other illegal items.
' It happens that 99% of the public knows what the conditions in prisons really are. Today in Albania, prisons are not a priority. We come from the elections and we have not seen any party talk about prisons, what the budget is and whether it should be invested in them. The public is not aware of how much it costs to maintain detention or prisons in Albania. Today you have prisoners in Albania who have incomes that are more than the annual budget of prisons in Albania.
But is it a problem today for a prisoner to meet a showbiz girl? If she goes to meet him of her own free will and has an intimate relationship with him, there is nothing, but if there is corruption, that is another problem, like bringing in phones or other things, the law works here. But does the Prison Directorate consider prisoners equal for visits? ', he said.
